Understand the multimodal transport of international cargo
The multimodal transport of international goods from the increasingly mature air-land transport to the intensive air-sea transport and then to the preliminary air-rail transport, for China's international and domestic trade to provide a solid basis for transport, while improving the effectiveness, reduce costs and ensure safety has made outstanding contributions
Nowadays, the modes of international cargo transportation mainly include sea, land, air and iron. There are three main types of multimodal transport of goods by air, including air-land, air-sea and air-rail.
Air-land combined transport is a combined transport mode combining land transport and air transport. In 2018, the Ministry of Transport drafted the Code of Practice for Air-Land Combined Transport (Draft for Comments), which defines air-land combined Transport as multimodal transport completed by air and road. At present, many air transport hubs in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong are transported by truck and flight.
Air-sea combined transport is mainly used to transport the goods by ship to the international transit port, and then transport them by land (truck) to the nearest airport, and then transport them by air to the destination. This combination actually combines the high time limitation of air transportation with the low cost of sea transportation, which effectively improves the time limitation and saves the cost. For example, cross-border e-commerce, overseas warehouses, bonded areas stocking goods and other ways of trade, such as this mode of combined transportation is very popular. In particular, if the gross weight of the goods is more than 500kg, it is suitable to use air-sea combined transport. If the gross weight is less than 500kg, most of the goods will be transported by air.
Air-rail combined transport originated from passenger transport. Later, with the joint promotion of railway and aviation units, the first air-rail combined transport appeared. The first batch of work was completed jointly by Sichuan Airport, Chengdu Railway Bureau, China Railway Express, Sichuan Airlines and other units. On May 10, 2018, the Civil Aviation Administration of China and China Railway Corporation signed the Strategic Cooperation Agreement on Promoting Air-Rail Combined Transport. The two sides expressed the need to deepen cooperation in five areas, including improving air-rail transport infrastructure, innovating air-rail transport products, improving air-rail transport services, expanding information sharing and promoting air-rail transport demonstration projects. At present, the air-rail combined transport is still in its infancy stage, and the treatment is perfect and improved.
